A Guide To Ayrshire
6 Apr 2021In combining the wonders of island life, beautiful countryside and sandy beaches with the vibrancy of towns like Ayr, Kilmarnock and Irvine, for a first time visit to Scotland, or anyone looking for an authentic Scottish experience, Ayrshire is a great location for a holiday. Whilst still located within southern Scotland, making it easy to each, it’s relatively central and benefits from fantastic transport routes to other areas of the country. It is an area rich in culture and history, boasting neolithic and viking chapters, a different castle for each day of the month, ties to Scottish heros like Bruce and Burns, and a thriving music scene. It’s a place to indulge in the finer things like fresh seafood and fine whiskies, horse racing or a round of golf, or something new and exciting like stargazing or coastal horse riding. And there are endless opportunities for exploration, from coastal walks to country parks and even an island dubbed ‘Scotland in Miniature.’
Since Ayrshire is the 7th largest county in Scotland, covering 2,931 km2, and is split into three council areas – North, South and East Ayrshire, from a holidaymakers point of view it’s a good idea to explore each area at a time, in order to make the most of your time in the region.
