Fort William
Fort William, in the Highlands, sits at the far north-easterly end of Loch Linnhe, right at the base of Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in Scotland. For anyone seeking spectacular views and excellent hiking, this is as good a base as any. If you prefer a horse or a mountain bike these are also options. If you like your activity on the water, then you are spoiled for choice with Loch Lochy also close by to the north-east. You’re never far from a distillery in Scotland and you will always be sure of a warm welcome from the locals in every Scottish town.
