Grantown-on-Spey

Speyside, named of course for the river Spey, which starts at Loch Spey and flows through the Cairngorm National Park to the North Sea, is the most important of several malt whisky-producing areas in Scotland. Grantown-on-Spey was planned and founded in 1765, which explains the neat grid pattern of its streets. For connoisseurs of single malt whisky this region has an embarrassment of riches, but is situated in the Cairngorm National Park, Grantown-on-Spey has plenty for those in search of magnificent scenery, walking, climbing and skiing. Scotland’s wealth of history is easy to find in the area with many grand castles and stately homes to visit and also important battle sites to explore.
