Kirkcudbright

Nestled on the firth of the river Dee in Dumfries and Galloway, the beautiful town of Kirkcudbright is recorded as having a Franciscan monastery in the 12th century though there are scant remains today. There are still plenty of attractions to visit though; Broughton House is the Edwardian home of Scottish artist E. A. Hornell, now a museum of his works and carefully looked after by the National Trust For Scotland.  The Stewartry museum showcases local history and MacLellan’s castle which is the centrepiece of the annual Tatoo.  The partially ruined Jacobean fortified mansion offers an insight into 15th-century Scottish life. Nautical visitors will appreciate Kirkcudbright marina where there is plenty of scope for fishing and outdoor activities.
