Kelso

It is no coincidence that many beautiful towns in Scotland are situated on water and Kelso is no exception, as it snuggles into a bend of the River Tweed about halfway between Jedburgh and Coldstream. It’s best-known attractions include the ruined 12th-century abbey and the, very much intact, Floors Castle, a magnificent Scottish stately home built in the 18th century for the Duke of Roxburgh, with much to see both inside and out. Kelso, of course, hosts the eponymous racecourse and as well as walking, riding and golf, you can try out clay pigeon shooting nearby.
