Mountain and Loch Walking Trails
25 Oct 2018On a walking holiday in Scotland, you will be able to see the most spectacular scenery in the whole of Europe; Scotland’s mountain and loch routes are the epitome of the country’s remarkable landscape, perfect for first-timers through to the seasoned walker. With its iconic backdrop, the most popular of these routes is the West Highland Way, stretching 96 miles across varied terrain. If immersing yourself in the surroundings is your main focus, the Three Lochs Way is the route for you. Involving Loch Lomond, The Gareloch and Loch Long, this route attracts some of the more experienced hikers with some challenging terrain. If visiting Loch Ness is on your bucket list, why not try your hand at a canoe ride down the Great Glen Canoe Trail (just be careful of ‘Nessie’!). This trail passes along various lochs along the Caledonian Canal which flows coast to coast across the country, Loch Ness being the most famous of these. The longest mountainous trail is known as the Southern Upland Way. This coast to coast walk covers 212 miles over the South of the country, starting at Dumfries and ending at the Scotland/England border, Cockburnspath. This walk takes the average walker between 12 and 16 days to complete.
