Allanhead Cottage Reviews
4 star reviewReally nice cottage in a superb location. Only two negative comments: the oil-fired range requires a steep learning curve and clearly has a mind of its own; the "farm road" access is so deeply and extensively potholed that even farm vehicles take it very carefully - really, your vehicle needs to have off-road capability!Thank you for your 4 star review and we do agree Allanhead is in a superb spot!
Having brought your comments regarding the road condition to the owners attention, they are aware that the farm track road has issues. Unfortunately the track is not their responsibility but the neighbouring land owners. Having said that, they do their best to maintain it and all the holes outside Allanhead, which have been concreted, and last year they filled all the holes in the track itself with 10 tonne of MOT road stone. It was in reasonable condition until the farmers silage contractor went through a few weeks later. You do not need a 4x4 to use the track as normal cars, including the postman, do manage it on a regular basis but care must be taken.
There are simple instruction to use the cooker and it is no different to any similar Aga type cooker, it’s just unfortunately not as simple as an electric or gas cooker, therefore it may take a bit of getting used to as you mentioned. Adds to the quirkiness of staying in a traditional rural cottage.
We are so glad you has a wonderful stay and hope to be welcoming you back again soon.
