Buchan - Glentrool, Newton Stewart
Holiday property description
The Buchan is a truly unique wilderness property in the heart of the Galloway forest, and we have a one off special!
Week commencing 23rd June NOW ONLY £669! That's a fabulous summer saving of 15% (Was £787)
An original wilderness property overlooking Loch Trool in the heart of the Galloway Forest Park, Britain's first designated 'Dark Sky Park', this historic hunting lodge provides modern, comfortable accommodation for up to 8 people who have a sense of adventure and enjoy getting away from it all. Set in a remote, stunning location, it offers excellent opportunities for walking, cycling and general exploring, or you can simply relax in the large conservatory and enjoy the wonderful view and watch the birds. Being surrounded by mountains on clear nights the star-gazing is exceptional.
Once the Earl of Galloway's mountain retreat, The Buchan is 'off-grid' and offers life at a different pace. It has no internet, television and limited mobile reception, although it does have a land line. Its services are entirely reliant on nature, with its own hydro-electricity and water supplies, and there is full central heating and a wood burning stove. Most of the time these are straightforward to operate with care and common sense, although during long periods of very dry or very cold weather power can be reduced. There is a backup generator and LPG cooker, and the wood burner provides both heating and hot water, but a certain amount of initiative is required. High powered appliances such as the dishwasher and washing machine may not be available. The hot tub in the conservatory is very popular but does require patience and careful management.
There are over two acres of semi-enclosed private land with a small burn and pond. Sheep, cattle and wildlife are all around so pets must be kept under strict control.

5 star reviewFabulous experience. Off the grid with the most beautiful views from the house and incredible, scenic countryside directly on your doorstep. The whole experience including the booking was friendly, easy and so prompt. We were all remarking how we want to come back every year till we all get old and grey. Sure the house has its issues but its completely off the grid in the middle of nowhere - if you wanted such complete luxury that you didn't have to do any work for it you wouldn't be able to sit opposite a mountain watching the stars overhead.
