Castleview House - Kirkcudbright
Holiday property description
The house is one of Kirkcudbright's oldest buildings and has excellent views over the town, the outstanding Visit Scotland 5 star graded accommodation ensures a luxurious holiday experience. It has magnificent views to Maclellan's Castle and, from the bedrooms, over Kirkcudbright to the estuary and uplands beyond. Whilst the house is centrally located it has a quiet location with easy access to all its facilities and backs on to the Hope-Dunbar Park, a recently enhanced children's play area and consequently easy access to the woodland walks adjoining Kirkcudbright.
The property has been lovingly restored and converted from its earlier status as the town's Masonic Hall to include underfloor heating throughout the ground floor and in all bathrooms. It provides spacious and comfortable family accommodation for groups of up to ten, with wheelchair access to the ground floor, the accommodation is over three floors and please note there is no bedroom on the ground floor. There is excellent outdoor seating both to the front of the house facing West to catch the afternoon and evening sun whilst, to the rear overlooking the adjoining park, the veranda facing East makes the most of the sun up to lunchtime and beyond. A top quality chef service is available on request.
South-West Scotland is ideal for holidays and abounds in touring opportunities, historic and cultural sites or sporting activities. The former might include visiting National Trust properties at Broughton House in Kirkcudbright, and Threave Gardens outside Castle Douglas whilst the latter would obviously involve golfing with courses too numerous to mention, including the town's 18-hole course just a mile away. There are also plentiful opportunities for horse-riding, bird watching, walking on beaches or cliff tops or in woodlands and, for biking enthusiasts, 2 hybrid bikes are provided for use of guests. The Forestry Commission's 7Stanes Mountain bike Routes are all close at hand.

'I have to say we thoroughly enjoyed staying at Castleview, it really is a beautiful home. It is obviously renovated very sympathetically. We're hoping to return there with our family at some point' Mr and Mrs Davidson, March 2016
'Beautiful house, decor and furnishings all top class, so comfortable we really didn't want to leave, there was eight adults in our party and one 2 year old so there was a danger that we might feel overcrowded but this was definitely not the case, we all loved it and can't recommend it highly enough. We also recommend the private chef Tom Kirkpatrick, together with Kate his wife they came and catered for us one evening producing a wonderful 3 course meal using all local ingredients a truly memorable family dinner at a very reasonable cost and they did the washing up afterwards as well. A fantastic weekend break, will definitely go back' Anne D, Jan 16
'Lovely house - all the comforts necessary for a relaxing holiday. Great to have a kitchen full of utensils, pots & pans and we enjoyed having some time to cook. Lots of space for teenagers to spread themselves out and do revision for exams. The weather was very kind to us and we got out every day to explore!' Mr & Mrs T. Dalkeith
'Thank you for thinking of everything that we could possibly need for a family holiday. The house is beautifully decorated and comfortable. We have enjoyed some lovely warm, sunny weather and the patio & swing seat were great for relaxing outside. Would love to come back for another family get together. Nice touch with hand written notes!' Mr & Mrs H. Sheffield

Castleview House Reviews
4 star reviewEverything excellent except one bedroom did not have en suite toilet and was on 2 no floor .Architect could have solved this problem easily during such a fabulous development
Very well equipped house really good spot to be
3 star reviewA problem with the hot water took 3 days to resolve which is very poor. The caretaker never responded to my call and the temporary fix that was made to the hot water after contacting the owner was inadequate for a house of this size.We very sorry that you encountered a problem with the hot water during your stay and do hope that it did not detract from your two week holiday with us. This problem with the water has not occurred in the previous five years that the house has been used for holiday letting, however the owner will now investigate the need for increased hot water capacity. In relation to the problem that occurred during your stay, the issue was dealt with as soon as possible and despite it occurring late Friday afternoon an interim repair was made for the weekend, this was fully complete early during the following week. Unfortunately, it is not possible to ensure that no breakdown ever occurs and in practical terms it is not always possible to provide an immediate repair due to availability of parts.
5 star reviewThe cottage looked very good on the website but in reality was amazing. The size of the bedrooms, the beautiful ensuites, the well equipped kitchen etc.etc. The decor throughout was very tasteful and the house had so many quirky features. Bookshelves everywhere filled with an amazing assortment of books to suit all tastes, one bookcase even had a ladder to access the books on the top shelves! It was so much more than a holiday cottage, it was a much loved house where we felt extremely comfortable. The situation of the house was also excellent, with a supermarket 30 seconds away and a large park behind, plus all shops, restaurants and coffee shops a short walk away. We had beautiful weather for our stay which adds to the experience, but even if it had rained the house would still have been perfect. Thank you.
5 star reviewThe property was even better than the discription. I have no criticism to offer. The kitchen was very well equipped, so perfect for family celebrations. Don’t worry about taking enough books with you - the library here caters for every taste. If the weather had been better it would have been unbeatable!
