Cross Cottage - Gatehouse Of Fleet
Holiday property description
Cross Cottage is a unique listed converted Chapel in a peaceful spot in its own spacious garden ground with superb open views and only a short distance from Gatehouse of Fleet (4 minutes by car and 15 minutes woodland walking).
Completely refurbished and well equipped, Cross Cottage makes an ideal base from which to explore this beautiful and popular area. With full central heating and a woodstove, the cottage is perfect for holidays at any time of the year. Whether your holiday hopes are for a relaxing cosy break, a romantic retreat a deux or a base for fresh air and exercise, then Cross Cottage's individual character, location and facilities are ideal.
Gatehouse of Fleet has an excellent range of hotels and pubs serving food plus 2 well stocked 7 day mini markets. Nearby are the superb sandy beaches of Sandgreen and Mossyard. On the outskirts of the town is a scenic and testing 9 hole golf course with adjacent tennis court and both loch and river fishing are available locally. The quiet roads and tracks surrounding the cottage are ideal for walking and cycling and the Cally oak Woods adjoining are a haven for wildlife; you will be delighted by the common sight of red squirrels in the garden, the rich chorus of birdsong, glimpses of deer, the carpets of snowdrops and bluebells in the Spring and the sight of the Milky Way overhead on clear nights. The nearby Galloway Forest Park was recently given the status of a Dark Skies Park.

Cross Cottage Reviews
5 star reviewOur third visit to Cross Cottage - unique, full of character, embedded in the history of Cally estate and in a wonderful setting. A previous reviewer has questioned the bed and mattress - we had no such worries and found it perfectly to our liking.
For those cricket lovers out there, the cottage backs onto Galloway Cricket Club and the brand new pavilion was officially opened when we were there - one of the most picturesque grounds in Scotland. We will be back.
2 star reviewWe boekten last minute. Fantastische cottage. We konden geen volle week blijven. Op de website van discover Scotland stond een aanbiedingsprijs. Uiteindelijk moesten wij meer afrekenen voor 5 dagen dan de week aanbiedingsprijs. Dat is misbruik maken van nood. Zeer onaangenaam.Fantastic cottage. We could not stay for a full week. On the website of discover Scotland there was an offer price. Eventually we had to pay more for 5 days than the week offer price. That is an abuse of distress. Very unpleasant.
We are very sorry to hear of your concern over the price, unfortunately the offer was only for a full week as the owner does not normally accept short breaks. The difference in price was also missed in the office due to having to set the booking up at very short notice so that arrival could be arranged for the same day as it was booked.
2 star reviewCottage itself is average but it's the location which appeals to us. Could do with a new mattress/bed though - very uncomfortable. Hoover has insulating tape around the flex which breaches PAT standards.Thank you for the feedback on the cottage which has been discussed with the owner. The mattress will be checked and replaced if required, it is of assistance to have feedback as previous guests have not noted any problem with it. The Hoover will also be repaired or replaced. We do hope that you still enjoyed your holiday and jhope that you will be able to make another visit next year.
5 star reviewCottage is lovely and in a great location. Very important to us that they allow dogs (otherwise we wouldn't be able to go!)Cross cottage is lovely and it is very nice to hear that you like it so much, pet freindly is also so important these days. Hope you can visit again before too long.
