Dowanhill Cottage - Castle Douglas
Holiday property description
A superb and delightful detached cottage with a lovely garden and off street parking centrally situated in Castle Douglas and offering a considerable degree of seclusion with all the facilities which the town has to offer on the doorstep.
Recently modernised and upgraded and furnished and equipped to a high standard this is an ideal holiday cottage. Although situated in the town, sitting out in the garden you are totally private and secluded.
Castle Douglas, the Food Town, provides an excellent range of shops, cafes, restaurants, pubs and hotels and is an ideal centre for exploring the wider area. The Solway Coast with its sandy beaches and rocky coves is within a half hour's drive and Loch Ken, with water sports and excellent coarse fishing, and the hills, are very close.
Castle Douglas has a swimming pool and a golf course and there are a number of other golf courses throughout the area. Game, coarse and sea fishing are all available locally. For the naturalist the Red Kite Trail is close to the town and slightly further afield are the nationally important wildfowl reserves of Mersehead and Caerlaverock.

'7th year coming to Dowanhill Cottage and still finding new places to visit and happy to visit places again that we love. Threave Gardens is always a favourite and we love the cafe. A drive around Galloway Forest and lunch at Clatteringshaws tea room is also one we never get tired of. As usual the cottage was warm and comfortable to return to each evening, we all love it here and, who knows, we may be back next year. Thank you!' Woodhouse & Lowery Families, Cumbria. July 2016
'Lovely cottage, beautifully decorated. Great location, ideal to walk into town to go shopping (not good for the bank balance!) We are water-skiers at Loch Ken so great to have the garden to dry our suits, as well as to sit out and enjoy the sunshine. We stay up here all the time but think we have now found our favourite cottage! Oh yes, husband says it's good for cyclists too!'
Leyland, Lax & Easton Families, Cheshire. Aug 2016
'A lovely stay again at Dowanhill, our 3rd visit. Weather has been lovely. Such a beautiful area. Would recommend Sweetheart Abbey tea rooms ? food excellent. Paul fished the Loch Ken festival and won! So a great end to a lovely holiday. Thank you for all the home comforts!' Clibburn & Haigh Families. Sept 2016

Dowanhill Cottage Reviews
5 star reviewHad a very enjoyable time at Dowanhill Cottage. A very comfortable and cosy place with all the mod cons. Located in a very convenient place (walking distance to the town centre and loch). Will definitely visit again.
5 star reviewIt's a comfortable well equipped cottage in the perfect location for an all ages family holiday. We had beach days, hill walking days, only one cinema day, and plenty of wonderful Scottish scenery and food from fish and chips and deep fried Mars bars to langoustines freshest fruit and vegetables and an artisan bakery round the corner. Lovely garden too.Great to hear that you had another excellent holiday
