Field Cottage Reviews
4 star reviewWe had trouble with the key box first the due to my stupidity I placed the key on the window ledge in the cottage & proceeded to unpack the car shutting the door behind me to keep flys out & then couldn't get back in however Victoria, a lovely young woman who looks after the cottage came over with key. Also the family who own the white bungalow at the bottom of the track were very helpful with the gates and if they saw us coming would go out and open 2 of them for us. It definitely is not a suitable place for people like us both in our eighties with limited mobility. We were very sorry to hear of the difficulties that you had at the cottage but do hope you still enjoyed your holiday. There are plans to fence the road so if yoou fancy another visit do ask us to check if the fence is up.
4 star reviewLovely cottage and very peaceful setting. The kids loved all the animals including the birds and mouse on the bird feeders, the horses, and shooing the cows and sheep off the track to get to the cottage! Shower attachment on the bath requires patience to get a usable temperature, but as we were at the Galloway Outdoor Activity Centre most days, showers at the cottage were not much of an issue. Shiny new kitchen with good oven/hob which is not always the case with older cottages so very welcome.Thank you for the review of the cottage and very good to hear that all the family had a great time, hope you will be able to visit again.
2 star reviewThe bathroom left a lot to be desired, the kitchen was wonderful, well stocked with every appliance. But to have to go through three rooms to reach the bathroom in the middle of the night, not good. Thanks for the review, glad that the kitchen was appreciated, the bathroom is due for a refresh this winter.
5 star reviewMy wife and I stayed at Field Cottage for 2 weeks.10th-24th June 2017.This is an excellent holiday cottage. It was very clean and tidy. The kitchen has everything one would require for a self catering stay. There was plenty of hot water and good central heating. The garden is large and well kept, the lawn was very well looked after. There is an outdoor table and plenty of chairs which are kept indoors. We had a query regarding refuse which was dealt with very quickly by the Housekeeper Victoria. The last review mention dripping taps in the bathroom, yes there was a very slight drip, not going to spoil a holiday though is it. The review also says too expensive. Over many years of self catering in the UK and and abroad I would say this cottage is excellent value. On the negative side there are 3 gates to open and close on the lane.We didn't mind though. The lane itself does require a slow and careful drive along. We managed it easily in our car which is not a 4x4. The bathroom would be we better with a shower unit. We really enjoyed our holiday and would stay here again. The owner, Cleaner and gardener all put a lot of effort tinto looking after the cottagte so will be pleased to hear that you liket he cotage so much. There are plans to fence off the road to make access easier, any potholes will be getting filled as part of normal maintenance. The plumbers will be called out to the tap as thier recent repair has obviously not worked properly.
1 star reviewToo expensive.
Need offroad vehicle to get there : lane too bumpy. Bathroom has a nice shower fitment but no curtain. , risk splashing. Too cold for a traditional bath , waited till I got home. The hot water sink tap leaks and you need to wring the the cold one so that it doesn't drip
Freezing in there since no heating or radiator sited there. Thanks for your feedback as it helps to ensure repairs can be made as soon as required. The shower is a bath attachment for use in the bath itself so there is no shower curtain. A plumber has been asked to attend to the taps, however when recently inspected by our staff the taps did not appear to be dripping. As noted in the description the cottage is in a rural location with a farm road; this will be checked for potholes but a 4X4 is not needed and when we were there earlier in the spring it was quite passable at normal farm road speed of 5 to 10mph. The owner does repair the road and also has plans to fence it to remove the need for gates to be opened/closed when going to the cottage. At a rate of £54/night for the whole house it does not appear expensive particularly when it sleeps five, this is only £11/head/night.
