A superbly situated two storey cottage with breathtaking panoramic views out to sea across Wigtown Bay and the Solway Firth to the Lake District and beyond. If peace and tranquility are for you then you will not be disappointed. Some of the finest landscapes and scenery that have inspired Scotland's authors and poets are on your doorstep.
The cottage is just 5 miles west of the attractive town of Gatehouse of Fleet and is a perfect base for exploring all that the area has to offer. Gatehouse has 2 small supermarkets open 7 days and there are a number of excellent pubs and hotels in the town. Kirkcudbright the Artists" Town and Castle Douglas the Food Town, with a further choice of popular restaurants and cafes, are both within 20 mins drive.
Several superb sandy beaches are only a short drive away including the ever popular beaches at Mossyard and Sandgreen.. For sailors, the waters around Cardoness, Sandgreen and Carrick are ideal, while nearby Loch Ken has a marina with a water ski school and a sailing and activity centre with instruction and boat, canoe and windsurfer hire.
A huge choice of activities are on your doorstep including walking, mountain biking, fishing, horse riding, archery, clay pigeon shooting and tennis. Several golf courses are within easy reach and Kirroughtree, part of the 7Stanes mountain bike network with 70 kilometres of trails, forest walks and a cafe, is within a fifteen minute drive of the cottage. Cream o" Galloway, the organic ice-cream farm and cafe, with bike trails, nature trails and its popular children's indoor and outdoor play area is only ten minutes away. The popular Laggan Outdoor centre with white-knuckle Zip wire and cafe is just 1km away.
All around Dumfries and Galloway you will find evidence of its rich archaeological, historical, literary and artistic past in its earthworks, standing stones, towers, castles, abbeys and other monuments. Whithorn, on the southern tip of the Machars peninsula, is the seat of Christianity in Scotland; Lochmaben was the birth place of Robert the Bruce; Dumfries provided a home and resting place for Robert Burns; Thomas Carlyle was born in Ecclefechan; Kirkpatrick Macmillan invented the bicycle near Thornhill; Sanquhar boasts the oldest active Post Office in Scotland and J M Barrie conceived the well-loved story 'Peter Pan' in Dumfries.
