Holiday property description
Located in a quiet and private woodland setting with fantastic views across woodlands towards the Solway and the Lake District. The lodge provides a spacious and comfortable base for a superb holiday in Southern Scotland and is sure to appeal to families, mountain bikers, walkers and all who are looking for a quiet and peaceful location from which to explore all that Scotland has to offer.
The lodge has a spacious deck making it a perfect place to sit and enjoy a glass of wine whilst enjoying the sparkling stars in one of the darkest skies you are likely to encounter as the lodge is on the edge of Europe's first Dark Skies Park in the Galloway Forest Park. The setting is also ideal for enjoying the local wildlife, you will see red squirrels, deer, badgers, bats and possibly even pine martens whilst relaxing in the peace and tranquillity.
The local area provides a wealth of opportunities for exploring including two good pubs in the popular sailing village of Kippford and slightly further away at Castle Douglas and Dumfries. Wildlife abounds throughout the area and well worth a visit is the RSPB Mersehead Reserve which has an interesting walk leading through the reserve along the sandy beach. The Solway Coast of course is superb for walking with rocky headlands and deserted coves to explore. Further inland the Forestry Commission woodlands provide excellent mountain biking opportunities with the 7Stanes Mountain Bike Trails, the Dalbeattie Woods are literally minutes from the lodges front door. The woodlands are also excellent for walking and exploring if looking for slightly less strenuous exercise.
The history and culture of Scotland is well represented with local sites including Sweetheart Abbey at New Abbey together with one of the oldest Corn Mills, both sites are managed by Historic Scotland. Other sites worthy of note include Threave Gardens (National Trust for Scotland) and Threave Castle both at Castle Douglas.
Whether you are looking for history and culture or outdoor pursuits such as horse riding, cycling, walking, fishing, golf (the Championship Links Course at Southerness is only fifteen minutes' drive away) or woodland walks you are truly spoilt for choice whilst the lodge provides a wonderful, comfortable, spacious home from home for enjoying a leisurely time in the evenings when not out exploring the local area.

4 star reviewExtremely well set out and comfortable lodge. Very clean and containing all that was required for a memorable stay. Good location in the woods, access track rather challenging for ordinary cars, perhaps a bit of shaping and grading would be advantageous.
Lots of useful local information provided, obviously someone has taken a lot of trouble to collate and obtain this.
WiFi would be advantageous to sublimement the information provided and to keep in touch with the world.
A wonderful area for peace and quiet. Would recommend a trip along the “Raiders Road” in the Glentrool forest, a very interesting and different “off road” experience.
5 star reviewHoneysuckle lodge is situated in a stunning location overlooking the woodland toward the Solway Firth. Squirrels, rabbits, deer, jay, woodpecker, chaffinch are some of the wildlife to be seen from the large deck area.
The lodge itself is large and bright and extremely well equipped. A welcome basket awaited us and the lodge was clean and inviting.
The location is ideal for a quiet, relaxing, getaway, with woodland walks on the doorstep, and quaint costal towns like Kippford within a 10 minute drive.
We have no negative to mention, but perhaps a suggestion - a summer quilt may be good to keep on hand, as the weather was warm whilst we were there and the 15tog winter quilt was too heavy for the warmer nights; but that is a minor matter, which we resolved by simply removing the quilt from the quilt cover and sleeping beneath the quilt cover.
A glorious week of weather added to a wonderful setting in a beautiful lodge. Many thanks.
5 star reviewA fantastic, clean and spacious cabin - it is much bigger than the photos suggest. A perfect spot too, with lots and lots of lovely walks and mountain-biking on the doorstep. Thanks for your review! We're so pleased you enjoyed your stay at Honeysuckle!
