Holiday property description

Set in the heart of Rob Roy McGregor country, Loch Arklet House is a superbly presented large holiday home suitable for taking groups of up to fourteen.  The house makes a superb location for exploring Scotland's heritage both natural and cultural.   Inversnaid on Loch Lomond is within two miles of the house and from here it is possible to take cruises on Loch Lomond or across to Tarbot.   Inversnaid also has a good quality hotel and access to the West Highland Way. There are superb walks directly from the house and Rob Roy's View Point is within easy reach as is the Millennium Walk to Strachur on Loch Katrine.   Loch Katrine again is famous and has boat tours available.

The Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park has plentiful outdoor pursuits including adventure centre within eight miles which provides canoeing, quad biking, archery and clay pigeon shooting.   Fishing is readily available on all the lochs as is golf at Aberfoyle and Callander.

The house is sure to please whether looking for a quiet family house or just to watch the wildlife that is on the doorstep which includes pine martins, deer and otters.

A day pass to the MacDonald Hotel Spa Resort is available from the hotel and the nearby Inversnaid bunkhouse allows non-residents to use its hot tub by arrangement.

Guest Comments:

' Great House in beautiful surroundings and we enjoyed our stay there.  We are a group of siblings and spouses who grew up in a farm here in Iceland, so we enjoyed driving around the Scottish countryside and the beautiful scenery around Loch Arklet was wonderful to experience. The service was excellent and I would recommend Discover Scotland holiday cottages to anyone'- Mr Ragnarsson, June 2017.

Loch Arklet House Reviews

2 star review

THE LOCATION WAS FANTASTIC WITHOUT ANY DOUBT. EXCELLENT COTTAGE TO STAY. THE VIEWS WERE UNBELIEVABLE. TOP QUALITY UTENSILS WERE AVAILABLE TO USE. NOT THAT EXPENSIVE EITHER. THE LADY OWNER, PHYLLIS, WAS ALWAYS THERE FOR ANY INFORMATION. BUT THERE WERE SOME BIG ISSUES TOO. WE WERE 14 PEOPLE IN 3 FAMILIES AND ONLY ONE KITCHEN WAS OPEN OUT OF TWO AND WE WERE NOT INFORMED AT ALL AOUT THIS. ONLY 2 MEDIUM SIZED COOKING DISHES WERE AVAILABLE FOR COOKING AND WE HAD SEVERE DIFFICULTIES TO COOK FOOD. OUR HOLIDAYS WERE ALMOST DEVASTATED DUE TO THIS. WE SUFFERED FOR THE HOT WATER IN FIRST 2 DAYS THOUGH IT WAS FIXED LATER. IT WAS REALLY HARD TO USE TO SHOWER. THE SETTINGS WERE COMPLICATED. NO MOBILE NETWORK IN 10 MILES RADIUS WHICH IS NOT ACCEPTABLE IN THIS MODERN ERA AND ALSO VERY DANGEROUS. LANDLINE WAS AVAILBLE WITH PAYMENT OPTION BUT THE LINE WAS TOO BAD. THE CARETAKER WAS NEVER AVAILABLE OVER THE PHONE. NO IDEA WHY WAS HE APPOINTED AT THE FIRST PLACE AS A CARETAKER!!!
Thank you for taking the time to write this review. We have spoken with the owner who confirmed that the second kitchen has now been closed off. We had not been made aware of this, so we do apologise this wasn't available for your use. We have updated the property description to show this.

I also mentioned to her about the kitchen requiring more cooking dishes and she will look into this for future stays.

She also extends her apologies about the lack of hot water for that short time, it was due to an oversight by the caretaker who is now no longer overseeing the property.

Whilst we do live in a modern era unfortunately, in this beautiful, scenic and rural part of Scotland, mobile reception is very limited or non-existent. It can be unexpected, but we hope guests embrace this way of life and take time to relax and unwind.

So glad to hear you enjoyed the house and location and we look forward to welcoming you back again in the future.

The Discover Scotland Team.

House was in stunning location and spacious enough for adults and children alike. However interior was quite run down. There was an overwhelmingly smell of damp in downstairs bedrooms and wallpaper peeling off the walls. We also had to clean fridge etc in kitchen when we arrived before we could use them as left in unclean state. Wasn't impressed with General cleanliness of rest of house. Noticed house is up for sale but that shouldn't effect the way the house is presented for guests!
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review of Loch Arklet. We're sorry to hear of the problems you encountered and have passed your comments on to the owner to get them addressed.
