Log House is a spacious & comfortable privately owned lodge, ideal for the larger family or small family who like lots of room located on the popular Barend Park at Sandyhills. It is surrounded by hills and forests teeming with wildlife and only a 5 minute walk to the wide open sands of Sandyhills beach, and numerous golf courses nearby.
Located in 25 acres of parkland on site facilities include free use of the indoor swimming pool and sauna, plus use of the sites bars and restaurant. It is an ideal holiday base for walking, water sports, cycling and bird watching and perfect for those who enjoy outdoor pursuits in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Local attractions include a riding centre and a golf course, castles, gardens, museums and art galleries. Dalbeattie Forest is just 7 miles away. The historic and bustling market towns of Castle Douglas, Kirkcudbright and Dumfries are within easy reach and well worth exploring for historic connections to Robbie Burns and earlier Scottish History.  The towns also have a wide selection of shops, restaurants, museums and sports facilities. There is a pub & restaurant on site, with the nearest shop being about 3 miles away.

As a family of 5 with children of 9, 7 and 4, this was an ideal property and location. The park itself is quiet and well laid out and presented. Staff were helpful, informative and also had the facilities of a decent-sized indoor pool which was very useful for the kids on the couple of mornings that there was some early rain. Also a very nice bar/restaurant onsite which we visited twice during the week we were there. Very handy.
The property itself was spacious and well looked after with a good level of spec. The rooms were all clean and comfortable. The kids particularly enjoyed having the large upstairs room to themselves with the 4 beds and the window leading to the balcony. They enjoyed having their space together plus was a separate double room with en-suite up there so they didn't have to go up and down stairs during the night.
The downstairs had a decent-sized double room which had a very comfortable bed. The downstairs shower room was well appointed and plenty of hot water at a good pressure which was useful after a day at the beach as could just take the kids straight in and into the shower. There were sufficient thick large towels provided too for each bed space. The living area downstairs was very relaxed with an open plan tv/sitting area, comfortable couches, a dining table area opposite the kitchen with room for 8 and the kitchen area off to the side. This was well set out and had sufficient work areas plus integrated dishwasher, washing machine plus a separate fridge and freezer. We had more than enough space for the food we brought. The cupboards were also well stocked with crockery, cups, glasses, cooking utendils, etc and were supplied with some washing liquid, dish tabs, cloths and tea towels on arrival. The main patio sliding doors open onto the lower balcony which has table and chairs for dining outside which was very pleasant.
We found the property to be very good certainly for a family with children with plenty of room and were 10 minutes walk max from Sandyhills beach which we spent some of our time at. The only point which may affect some more than others was that the free wifi for the park didn't seem to extend very well to the cabin location. Not a problem with your own reception however and don't generally go on holiday to spend it online.
The Barend Riding centre that is opposite the park is now no longer functioning apparently as the owner has recently retired. There are others in the area but you will be driving to get there.
This was a great property for our week and really enjoyed our time at it and in the area.

The lodge was very lovely and in a great location, we enjoyed our stay very much. The kitchen was well provisioned, however some of the furnishings were showing wear and tear- the drawers in the upstairs rooms were not good for using, having loose fittings, and the dining set was a little unstable. Mostly, the 4pm check in and then the 10am check out with quite a steep charge for overstaying felt like you were losing a day off your booking, which with the additional security deposit made the stay feel a little overpriced or harsh. Otherwise, a very lovely area and a nice location for the lodges. Loch Barend is very beautiful and there are very good nature walks and things to do in the area, especially for outdoor lovers.
We are so glad to hear you all enjoyed your stay. It really is a lovely part of Scotland.

With holiday cottage rentals, the standard check in/out time is 4pm and 10 am repectively. We are sorry that you feel you missed a day and we hope that this won't deter you from booking again. At certain times of the year some owners are happy to extend this where possible.

With all bookings we offer the fully refundable £150 damage deposit or the £18 non refundable waiver, giving the customer the choice of which suits them best.
