Moorsheil - Rockcliffe
Holiday property description
This superb shore front cottage sleeping six has superb views across Rockcliffe Bay to Rough Island, the Urr Estuary and the hills beyond. The light and spacious cottage has been recently upgraded to an excellent standard providing a fantastic family holiday base.
The popular village of Rockcliffe has a sandy beach and there are plenty of other outdoor activities close to hand including sailing at Kippford together with direct access from the cottage to the coastal path which leads to Castle Point and on round to deserted Smuggler's Coves and also the large popular beach at Sandyhills.
The attractive walk along Jubilee Path to Kippford is well worth investigating. Kippford has two pubs both serving food, and front onto the river which is a popular and busy sailing and water sports venue.
History, culture and outdoor sports are well catered for in the local area with historic sites including Threave Castle at Castle Douglas well worth visiting as you have to take a small boat across the river. Dumfries and its connection with Rabbie Burns are within easy reach including his farm Ellisland at Auldgirth. Pleasant walks and mountain bike trails are available in the Forestry Commission Woodlands at Dalbeattie and further afield Mabie, Ae and other forests provide testing mountain bike trails forming part of the 7Stanes series. River and sea fishing abound and golf courses are all close to hand with enough so that you can play a different course every day of the week, including the testing Southerness Championship Links Course.
The house is bound to please and with its outlooks it may be that you just want to sit and watch the views from the garden.

5 star reviewThe cottage exceeded our expectations. Beautiful location, stunning sea view, lovely mature garden which was full of wildlife. Very relaxing, warm and comfortable.
The only comment I would make which I’m surprised no one else has referred to in previous reviews ie. you access the cottage via a stretch of road via a caravan site and the road at this section is not in great condition so if you have low suspension on your car as I do or are precious about your car you may wish to consider this.
4 star reviewWe arrived at Moorshiel to find living/dining room area floors, skirting s and under furniture very dusty (dirty under furniture) Had to start our holiday hoovering (a challenge with the Hoover!)and wiping corners before we unpacked. Also lots of chips in crockery and worn out place mats. The house itself is perfect for a holiday let and bedrooms/bathrooms spotless. Beautiful location with breathtaking unintrerrupted views.
5 star reviewSuperb location and well appointed house with everything we would need for a good holiday. Whilst in general it was clean, the showers had black mould round the bottoms and the skirting boards downstairs were thick with dust. The ironing board needs replaced and the hoover has a mind of its own. We resolved most of the cleaning issues ourselves but shouldn't have had to. Apart from this great. Will rebook for next year.
5 star reviewWe have stayed a quite a few cottages / houses in the area over the years. Moorsheil is a little gem tucked away. We were blessed with good weather, which always helps, and during cooler evenings the heating system and log fire was very efficient. A very comfortable and high quality cottage.
5 star reviewThe holiday house was beautifully appointed with everything that you could possibly need for a happy holiday. The location was stunning, with a large garden leading to the rocky shore line that was ideal for exploring.
4 star reviewCottage views fantastic. Cottage facilities good but not very clean when we arrived. Dishwasher full of dirty water. Kitchen bin had wet coffee granules in and upstairs shower had empty shampoos in it .
I cleaned up and the rest of the holiday was greatMany thanks for your review. We're pleased to hear you enjoyed your holiday at Moorsheil. We will pass your comments regarding the cleanliness of the property on to the owners for their attention.
