Holiday property description
Due to cancellation, the week commencing 1st October is now reduced by 25%, from £335 to £250!
This spacious, traditional detached 18th Century cottage is full of character in a tranquil, rural location. The cottage itself has been carefully furnished and equipped and, having an open fire in the living room and a wood-burning stove in the lounge, is cosy and comfortable. The cottage has open views over neighbouring farmland to the high hills of Galloway, and the garden is visited by a variety of wild and bird life. It is conveniently situated within a few minutes' drive of Castle Douglas, known locally as The Food Town with many independent retailers.
There are plentiful opportunities to explore the local area including the historic Caerlaverock Castle with its unusual triangular floor plan and Moat Brae in Dumfries, where J M Barrie wrote Peter Pan. Leisure pursuits in the area include plentiful golfing opportunities including 18 hole courses at Castle Douglas and New Galloway with many other 18 hole and 9 hole golf courses available nearby including the Links Championship course at Southerness. The Forestry Commission 7Stanes Mountain Bike Trails are located throughout the region with the nearest being at Dalbeattie Forest about a 15 minute drive away and also in Dumfries at both Mabie & Ae Forests, a little further afield are the trails in the Galloway Forest Park (Britain's first designated Dark Sky Park). There are plethoras of walking opportunities within a short drive including beach, cliff top, forest and for those who seek something more strenuous, hill walks. Course and sea fishing are readily available throughout the area.
In autumn and winter large numbers of the Svalbard population of barnacle geese arrive at the RSPB Mersehead Reserve on the Solway Coast giving an unrivalled chance to see these amazing birds and other winter visitors - more information at: http://www.rspb.org.uk/reserves/guide/m/mersehead/index.aspx . The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust Centre at Caerlaverock, near Dumfries is also well worth a visit.
For the young at heart (and not so young) a visit to Cream O' Galloway should be considered with its adventure playground for all ages, farm tours, ice cream (you can have a go at making your own), pond dipping and wildlife walks are just a taster of what is available. The Cocoa Bean Factory is a must for all young chocoholics, where chocolate workshops are held daily, indoor and outdoor play areas, a cafe and a shop are on offer. For older children and adults, Galloway Activity Centre offers many water based activities including Sailing and Kayaking, land based activities are also offered. Laggan Outdoor offers activites including one of the longest Zip Wires in Europe, Segway Adventure tours, Mountain Balling and Clay Pigeon Shooting to name a few.
We were pleased to be able to book this week at short notice. Most of the week has been lovely and bright except Friday. Sandgreen was marvellous with the rollers coming in. We have been to the Gem Rock Museum in Creetown and it is worth a visit. Have seen several hares outside. Mr & Mrs Gill, Cheshire, March 2016.
The weather has been mixed with some glorious spring sunshine, as well as heavy rain. We especially enjoyed seeing Red Kites in abundance at the Feed Station Farm at Laurieston. The Beattie Family, Glasgow, March 2016.
This is our first visit to Ringanwhey and it won't be our last. A lovely comfortable cottage with lovely views, very relaxing and Sky the dog enjoyed the garden. Hope to be back soon. Thank you. Mr & Mrs Humble, Durham, March 2016
We have had a lovely two weeks in your cottage, on arrival it was very welcoming, warm and comfortable, it is very well situated for exploring the area, and the garden was very well liked by our Labrador, Molly. The cottage has everything you need and we hope to come back next year. We have been coming to Scotland for over 20 yearsand these two weeks have been the best weather we have had. Many thanks. Ann & Colin, Norfolk, Sept 2015
Delightful Coittage, a lovely place to come back to after days out. Particularly enjoyed Threave, watching Red Kites, feeding them, long rambles through Galloway Forest Park, especially at Glentrool. Strongly recommend exploring Kirkcudbright - Polarbites BEST FISH & CHIPS (and other delights) ever - plus excellent meals/welcome at Selkirk Arms. Our first visit to Galloway - loved it! Thank you. Elwell Family, July 2015
