The cottage makes a central base from which to enjoy the wide open spaces of the Scottish Hills and the fabulous coast of the Solway Firth, with the chance to see red squirrels, deer, otters and many bird species with winter being a wonderful time to see the amazing numbers of wintering geese on the Solway Firth merse foreshore.
Outdoor activities available on the door step are many and varied including walks and cycle routes with tracks for all abilities, golf, fishing and riding.
The culture and history of Scotland can also be discovered and enjoyed at many local sites including Drumlanrig castle surrounded by beautiful gardens and famous art collection, Robert Burns’s farm at Ellisland, The highest village in Scotland at Wanlockhead with it’s sister village of Leadhills which is home of Scotland’s Lead mining museum. The area gives an unrivalled cross section of live from days gone by through the industrial revolution to modern life; however one thing that has not changed is the tranquil beauty that greets all who venture into Southern Scotland. The nearby village of Moniaive, a finalist in the 2018 Scottish Culture Awards is well worth a visit and hosts regular events including a Folk Festival, Comic Festival and Horse Show.
