With superb views up the Ken valley to the hills beyond, Bramble Cottage is a lovely family holiday cottage in a peaceful location in the edge of this historic village of St John’s Town of Dalry. It is only a short walk the centre of the village with all it’s amenities including village stores and two hotels serving meals.

The cottage is well-furnished and equipped and makes an excellent base for exploring this lovely area. From the garden at the rear of the house there are panoramic views over rolling farmland to the hills beyond, there is plenty of space for al fresco dining and star gazing to enjoy the best that the Dark Sky Park offers.

The Southern Upland Way long distance footpath gives access to vast areas of hill country and Loch Ken with its Activity Centre and Marina, and with excellent coarse fishing, is a short drive away. The cottage is in the heart of the Galloway Forest Park ensuring peace and tranquillity with easy access to Forestry Commission trails to allow unrivalled opportunities for outdoor pursuits and seeing the wildlife of the area including Red Kites, Ospreys and even possibly Golden Eagles. The Ospreys regularly visit the near by Loch Doon to nest and there is a small cafe with an Osprey observatory with a web cam link to the nest. The numerous beaches along the Solway Coast and in Ayrshire are within easy reach.

Although in a rural area the market towns of Castle Douglas and Ayr are both within easy reach together with the superb beaches along the Solway Firth and Clyde Coast.

South West Scotland offers superb opportunities for exploring Scotland's heritage. The many famous sites relating to both King Robert the Bruce and Rabbie Burns are close by including easy access to the Burns trail and birthplace museum. Robert 1, known as Robert the Bruce, was the Scottish king who secured Scotland's independence from England in 1324, his statue stands at the centre of Lochmaben.
