The cottage is located in the farm steading and has been awarded 4 stars by Visit Scotland.
It is very comfortably furnished with wooden oak flooring in the kitchen and sitting room along with a cosy log fire with ample supply of logs. Adjoining the farm steading it is possible to see all the activity of a normal working farm and learn about the countryside.
Set on an award winning farm in the beautiful Dumfriesshire countryside, the location is renowned for its abundance of birds and wildlife which can be enjoyed from marked footpaths around the 310 acres of farm and woodland. Slightly further afield are the Eskrigg Nature Reserve where red squirrels, kingfishers and tawny owl are regularly sited, and Caerlaverock Wetland Centre, recently featured on Autumn Watch. The farm itself, which features an adventure playground and opportunities to "meet and greet" the resident animals, is a fantastic place for children to truly experience the Great Outdoors. All made even better with the sandy beaches of the Solway Firth and Mabie Forest Farm within a 30 minute drive, there's plenty to tire them out, promising a relaxing evening for adults!
The area also offers superb opportunities for outdoor activities both along the Solway coast and also inland where there is a great variety of river walks through to the hilltops giving magnificent panoramas to enjoy. There are numerous golf courses with great variety ranging from sea shore courses at Powfoot and Southerness through to Hoddam Castle's pretty riverside course. The choice of other outdoor activities is almost endless and includes fishing, horse riding, water sports and mountain biking all of which are within easy reach.
One of the summer highlights in the area through the summer is 'Riding of the Marches' festivals with events in Annan, Lockerbie, Moffat, Langholm and Dumfries all of which end with cavalry charges by the participants thorough the respective towns - something that should not be missed.
Whatever time of year you choose to visit there will be activities to enjoy and sights to marvel at, while Glasgow and Edinburgh are just slightly further afield but are both within easy reach for a day trips to the Scottish Parliament, Edinburgh Castle, Royal yacht Britannia and, of course, Edinburgh's Princes Street for shopping.
