Floors Farmhouse, recently awarded 4 stars by Visit Scotland, lies within the Nith Valley and offers a peaceful, spacious holiday base with picturesque views which is perfect for families, small groups or couples looking for a weekend break or longer holiday. The historic town of Thornhill nestles on the banks of the River Nith nearby with the dramatic Southern Uplands hills rising up away from the town.

The house has plenty of room to spread out and the large garden and amazing outdoor orangery/games room provides a place to hide or congregate. It is a great place for a family holiday and it even has a nursery if you have a small child. The outdoor patio has furniture for outdoor eating and a barbeque plus a swing chair to while away the long summer days gazing across the fields towards the hills beyond in this perfect tranquil environment.

Floors farm is small family farm surrounded by grassy meadows grazed by sheep and cattle and cut for hay in the summer. The farm is carefully managed to promote a wide variety of wildlife in the various habitats found on the farm. There are delightful walks through the grassy meadows and along the along the banks of the River Scaur which runs through the farm, all giving ample opportunity to enjoy the wildlife first hand.

Village life is not far away with Penpont only one mile down the road and boasting a shop and cafe. Thornhill is the main village and is about 2 miles away and has a wide variety of shops, cafes, pubs, garage and a bank and a visit to Moniave is also worthwhile to sample the artistic flair that abounds in the local area. For more serious shoppers Dumfries is about 16 miles away.

The local area and all Southern Scotland is famous for the scenery and wildlife that can be enjoyed. The farmhouse makes a central base from which to enjoy the wide open spaces of the Scottish Hills and the fabulous coast of the Solway Firth, with the chance to see red squirrels, deer, otters and many bird species with winter being a wonderful time to see the amazing numbers of wintering geese on the Solway Firth merse foreshore.

Outdoor activities available on the door step are many and varied including walks and cycle routes with tracks for all abilities, golf, fishing and riding. Drumlanrig Estate is close by with a wonderful adventure playground together with signed walking and mountain bike trails. There are excellent kayak opportunities on the River Nith and the house has plenty of space for storage of both bikes and canoes.

The culture and history of Scotland can also be discovered and enjoyed at numerous local sites including Drumlanrig castle surrounded by beautiful gardens and famous art collection, Robert Burns’s farm at Ellisland or the nearby village of Moniaive, a finalist in the Scottish Culture Awards is well worth a visit and hosts regular events including a Folk Festival, Comic Festival and Horse Show. If you venture up from the valley through the stunning Dalveen Pass you can explore Scotland’s highest village at Wanlockhead along with its sister village of Leadhills, home of Scotland’s Lead Mining Museum. The area gives an unrivalled cross section of life from days gone by through the industrial revolution to modern life; however, one thing that has not changed is the tranquil beauty that greets all who venture into Southern Scotland.

Floors Farmhouse is a wonderful place to work, rest or play - you will not be disappointed whatever the weather.
