Gardeners Cottage, a charming, characteristic traditional Galloway cottage attached to the walled garden, offers a luxury spacious holiday base for families in the quiet and peaceful exclusive grounds of Penninghame Estate. The surroundings are perfect for ensuring privacy while you relax and recharge in the Galloway Forest Park, alternatively you can live life to the full with strenuous mountain bike and walking trails in the park and up local peaks. The bustling town of Newton Stewart with a good range of shops, restaurants and cafes is just 5 miles away.

The cottage has two ground floor single bedrooms together with a sitting room with dining area looking onto the walled garden. The cottage has been modernised to ensure comfortable accommodation whilst retaining its original character. The surrounding attractive grounds have pleasant walks through the woodlands that lead down to the River Cree, wild swimming, fishing and other pursuits can be arranged for guests.

There are unsurpassed opportunities for outdoor pursuits for all ages and abilities from the doorstep, so whether you are looking for a leisurely woodland stroll to enjoy the wildlife or more strenuous hill walking or cycling/mountain biking then you can pick a different route or challenge for everyday of the week! The Galloway Forest Park, with its Dark Skies status is on the doorstep and has unsurpassed star gazing opportunities together with stages of the 7Stanes mountain bike network. The local area has many golf course including Minnigaff’s 18 hole course and the Cally Palace parkland course at Gatehouse of Fleet which was designed by the well-known golf architect Tom Macaulay, the parkland course has wonderful views of Cardoness Castle, Rutherford's Monument and the Fleet Estuary. Scotland’s history and heritage can be explored with visits to the Robert Bruce Stone at Glentrool or more ancient sites such as St Ninians Cave near Whithorn and the various castles including Threave Castle which stands on an island in the Dee near Castle Douglas. Fishing can also be arranged nearby.

Damage Deposit for care of property

All holiday-makers booking a holiday are required to pay either a Damage Deposit, £150 or as noted in the property listing details, or Damage Deposit waiver, whichever is selected is required to be paid with the balance payment of the holiday. Where selected the Damage Deposit will be held by Discover Scotland to be applied against the reasonable costs of repairs, replacement or additional cleaning of furnishings, kitchen equipment, crockery, glass, bedding and towels damaged or soiled other than by normal wear and tear during the holiday. The Damage Deposit, less any reasonable charges, will be returned within 14 days of the departure date. Where any costs exceed the Damage Deposit the holiday-maker will pay such excess as notified to them by Discover Scotland within 14 days of notification. Where the holiday-maker has agreed to pay the Damage Deposit Waiver the Damage Deposit is not payable. This amount is non-refundable. If the cost of any damage or breakages exceeds the applicable Damage Deposit value for the property, then the holiday-maker will be liable for any additional costs. Any such excess will be notified to them by Discover Scotland and due for payment within 14 days of notification.

All bookings require either a refundable Damage Deposit £150 or as per the property details or £20 non refundable Damage Deposit Waiver.
