This cosy cottage is set in beautiful countryside halfway between the splendid independent shops of Castle Douglas, known locally as 'The Food Town' and the Artists Town of Kirkcudbright, with its busy harbour and fishing fleet. Course and sea fishing are readily available throughout the area.
In autumn and winter large numbers of the Svalbard population of barnacle geese arrive at the RSPB Mersehead Reserve on the Solway Coast giving an unrivalled chance to see these amazing birds and other winter visitors - more information at : http://www.rspb.org.uk/reserves/guide/m/mersehead/index.aspx . The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust Centre at Caerlaverock, near Dumfries is also well worth a visit.
For the young at heart (and not so young) a visit to Cream O'Galloway should be considered with farm tours, ice cream (you can have a go at making your own), pond dipping and wildlife walks are just a taster of what is available. The Cocoa Bean Factory is a must for all young chocoholics, where chocolate workshops are held daily, indoor and outdoor play areas, a cafe and a shop are on offer.
