Situated on the edge of Kirkbean village, with the small but mighty Criffel Hill as backdrop, Marrak is a spacious and recently refurbished bungalow perfect for smaller, multi generation family holidays. Located just off the breath-taking Solway Coast, there is plenty to see and do within the local area, meaning you don’t have to travel far for a day’s entertainment. Travelling westward from the property you will find the Mersehead RSPB Reserve with it’s birdwatching hides and fabulous sandy beach walks and, further still, the picturesque fishing villages of Rockcliffe and Kippford, linked by a not-so-strenuous clifftop walk which offers unparalleled views over Rough Island, and the Solway Coast towards Wigtownshire.

Eastwards towards Dumfries, you will find Sweetheart Abbey, founded in 1273 by the grieving widow Lady Dervorgilla of Galloway and Caerlaverock National Nature Reserve, home to a vast array of wetland birds and wildlife, as well as the mighty Caerlaverock Castle, a 13th Century triangular moated castle resembling something out of a fairy tale.

Beyond Dumfries is Ellisland Museum and Farm, the idyllic home built by national Bard Robert Burns in 1788 and Mabie Forest and Farm park, a great day out for families with small children.

This particular area is an ideal location for active holidaymakers with 7Stanes mountain biking at Kirroughtree, Dalbeattie and Ae Forests, sailing and Kayaking at Loch Ken Activity Centre and some fantastic walks, including Criffel Hill, rising 570 metres. It's also a great location for golfers, with Southerness Championship golf course only a 5 minute drive away, plus courses at Colvend, Dalbeattie, Castle Douglas, Kirkcudbright, Gatehouse of Fleet and Dumfries.

Laid out across one level, with 3 separate bedrooms, one en suite, the accommodation is accessible to all age groups and spacious enough that parents and grandparents can take some time whilst the children play at a relaxing and safe distance. The half-acre garden is an ideal space for children to let off some steam but do please note that there is an unfenced pond and stream located within the garden, so smaller children should not be left unsupervised.

Damage Deposit for care of property

All holiday-makers booking a holiday are required to pay either a Damage Deposit, £150 or as noted in the property listing details, or Damage Deposit waiver of £18, whichever is selected is required to be paid with the balance payment of the holiday. Where selected the Damage Deposit will be held by Discover Scotland to be applied against the reasonable costs of repairs, replacement or additional cleaning of furnishings, kitchen equipment, crockery, glass, bedding and towels damaged or soiled other than by normal wear and tear during the holiday. The Damage Deposit, less any reasonable charges, will be returned within 14 days of the departure date. Where any costs exceed the Damage Deposit the holiday-maker will pay such excess as notified to them by Discover Scotland within 14 days of notification. Where the holiday-maker has agreed to pay the Damage Deposit Waiver the Damage Deposit is not payable. This amount is non-refundable. If the cost of any damage or breakages exceeds the applicable Damage Deposit value for the property, then the holiday-maker will be liable for any additional costs. Any such excess will be notified to them by Discover Scotland and due for payment within 14 days of notification.

All bookings require either a refundable Damage Deposit £150 or as per the property details or £18 non refundable Damage Deposit Waiver.
