A charming traditional Galloway cottage in the heart of the thriving Royal Burgh of New Galloway. The property has been modernised and upgraded to make a wonderful holiday cottage and ideally located to allow you to enjoy all that the South West of Scotland has to offer. There is so much on the doorstep including walking, fishing, cycling, golfing, bird watching and water sports or exploring the beauty of the Ken Valley. The Galloway Forest Park, designated as Britain's first Dark Skies Park offers unrivalled opportunities for star gazing, with a drive along the Raiders Road through the forest to the Otter Pool a must on a summers day for a picnic & a paddle! Nearby Galloway Activity Centre offers a wide range of land and water based activities, with the many beaches along the Solway Coast within a short drive. For those wishing to see local wildlife, the cottage is located in the heart of the Red Kite Trail, with the RSPB feeding station at Laurieston, and the hides on the Ken Dee Marshes give a fascinating insight into the local wildlife. New Galloway Golf Course is within walking distance, with a 25 minute drive from the popular market town of Castle Douglas and, slightly further afield, Newton Stewart both with Golf course, and local amenities including cinemas and leisure facilities. There are many walks in the area whether it be for a gentle stroll through the forest or a more strenuous hike on the Southern Upland Way.
The cottage is part of a small terrace of traditional Galloway cottages in the heart of the charming conservation town of New Galloway, a bustling centre for arts and crafts; of particular note are the frequent and varied events hosted at The Catstrand. The town is a good holiday base and has an excellent community run food store, there are also a choice of Tea Rooms and Hotels nearby for eating out.
