Number 17 is a recently refurbished terraced town house which is conveniently located in the market town of Castle Douglas with easy access to all amenities including an excellent range of interesting independent shops, art galleries, theatre, restaurants & pubs, golf course and local swimming pool.
It provides a superb base from which to explore South West Scotland including the Solway Coast with outstanding sandy beaches and cliff top walks within a 20-minute drive.
Outdoor activities include exploring the unspoilt beaches of the Solway Firth with water and land-based activities available inland at Galloway Activity Centre on Loch Ken, horse riding, quad biking and golf are all available nearby, as is the popular 7Stanes Trails offering world class mountain biking. Rod hire is available in the town and fishing is available on Carlingwark Loch on the southern edge of the town. For younger family members a visit to Ernespie Farm is a must as is a trip to the nearby Cocoa Bean chocolate factory.
The National Trust for Scotland's Threave Estate is on the edge of the town where the House and surrounding gardens offer an oasis of tranquillity. The Estate offers the chance to see Ospreys in the summer months. A visit to Threave Castle is a must, with a trip across the river by boat to reach the castle. For the naturalist the Red Kite Trail is close to the town and slightly further afield are the nationally important wildfowl reserves of Mersehead and Caerlaverock.
The historic cities of Edinburgh and Carlisle, along with cosmopolitan Glasgow, are all within easy reach for enjoyable day trips. With whole of Dumfries and Galloway easily accessible with its dramatic coastline, unspoilt villages and local produce there really is something for everyone.

First floor: Mezzanine shower room and single bedroom; Two king size bedrooms (one of which is a Zip ‘n’ link and can become a twin, please let us know your preference at the time of booking) and snug reading room
Outside: Attractive enclosed garden with small unprotected pond.
