Grading Holiday Accommodation for Quality and Comfort
Visit Scotland have a Quality Assurance Scheme which lets you know about both the quality and range of the facilities offered. The distinctive plaques are awarded after an annual visit from the inspectors. Star’s are awarded from a range of 1 to 5 stars, this will show the quality standard of each property. In addition, 4 & 5 Star properties are expected to provide a small number of key facilities in order to meet quality standards.
A.S.S.C.
Discover Scotland is a member of The Association of Scotland’s Self Caterers as are some of our owners.
Holiday Property Descriptions
Each property is inspected and are known personally to us. The description tells you as much as possible about the accommodation offered, all are very different in types of construction, style and equipment. The sleeping capacity is shown beside each property. Extra beds are shown in the side panel, this could be a put-u-up or a ‘Z’ bed. These beds are generally only suitable for children. Cots and High Chairs are generally available at no extra charge. Bed linen and duvets are NOT supplied for cots.
Mobile Phone and Broadband Coverage
Due to the rural nature of Scotland mobile phone coverage is not guaranteed and if essential for it to be available then Holiday- makers are advised to check with their provider before booking.
Broadband connections, where provided are not guaranteed as speeds and connectivity in some locations may be variable. Interruptions to service are outside the control of the owner and the service is dependent on the provider.
Security Deposit
All holiday-makers booking a holiday are required to pay either a Security Deposit of £150, or as noted in the property listing details, or a Security Deposit Waiver. The Security Deposit or Security Deposit Waiver, as selected, is required to be paid with the balance payment of the holiday. Where selected the Security Deposit will be held by Discover Scotland to be applied against the reasonable costs of repairs, replacement or additional cleaning of furnishings, kitchen equipment, crockery, glass, bedding and towels damaged or soiled other than by normal wear and tear during the holiday. The Security Deposit, less any reasonable charges, will be returned within 14 days of the departure date. Where any costs exceed the Security Deposit the holiday-maker will pay such excess as notified to them by Discover Scotland within 14 days of notification.
Where the holiday-maker has agreed to pay the Security Deposit Waiver the Security Deposit is not payable. The Security Deposit Waiver is non-refundable. If the cost of any damage or breakages exceeds the applicable Security Deposit value for the property, then the holiday-maker will be liable for any additional costs. Any such excess will be notified to them by Discover Scotland and due for payment within 14 days of notification.
Bed Linen
Details are shown in the ‘SERVICES’ section if bed linen is available. Unless otherwise stated towels are not provided – this will be stated at the end of each ‘SERVICES’. All beds are supplied with a duvet, two pillows and an under blanket. For those properties where linen is available as an extra, you can either bring your own or we can supply you at a cost.
Arrival and Departure
Except for Short Breaks and weekends lets, all holidays start and finish on a Saturday unless noted otherwise in the property descrtiption.
The normal check in time is 4pm on the day of arrival and must be vacated by 10 am on the day of departure.
As it is a self catering holiday before departure please do have a quick clean arround and tidy up including emptying the fridge and freezer of left over food; sorting out the recycling and putting it in the correct bins and remove sheets where requested as this all helps the cleaners with the turn round of the cottage for the arrival of the next guests.
