A Guide To Inveraray and The Heart of Argyll

Inveraray is most famous for the Castle which was built in the 18th century for the Duke of Argyll. It is rather more a grand stately home than a castle and is open to visitors. The present town was founded at the same time and has several fine examples of Georgian architecture, including the old jail which now houses the museum. Inveraray sits on the banks of Loch Fyne, offering opportunities for fishing and a variety of watersports. On land, visitors can enjoy a wide range of pursuits including horse riding, paint balling and more at the Visit Scotland 5* graded Argyll Activity Centre.
