Barscobe House makes the perfect setting for a family party with the house ample able to cater for 18. Set in the beautiful Galloway countryside, the house is on an 800-acre estate ensuring peace and tranquillity while enjoying the views over the garden towards the rolling hills of the Glenkens.
Barscobe House provides comfortable traditional country house style accommodation. Based around a large reception hall with billiard table, there are numerous reception rooms including drawing room, sitting room, dining room, playroom and country style kitchen with breakfasting area - plenty of room for everyone to find their own space.
Barscobe Estate is well off the beaten track and the house is 1 miles from the public road with privacy ensured by being set back from and screened from the road leading onto the farm steading, Barscobe Castle and the estate cottages. The Estate has pleasant walks from the doorstep either along the level track to Barscobe Loch, natural paths through the Estate woodlands to discover the impressive waterfalls in Garple Glen (watch the path edges) or a rough walk to the top of Barscobe Hill giving panoramic views over the countryside (enjoy the view while you catch your breath). Trout fishing is available on the Loch.
Whilst the Galloway Forest Dark Sky Park is on the doorstep the location of the house means that you can enjoy the stars from the house itself. The Park does however provide superb opportunities for enjoying all outdoor pursuits such as walking mountain biking and wonderful wildlife including Red Deer, Red Kite, if lucky a Golden Eagle, kingfishers, Otters and many more. The Solway coasts has many quiet and peaceful beaches together with all the water sports that you would expect and Loch Ken is just 5 miles with water-skiing, sailing and water based activity centre.
The local area provides much of interest for days out including historical sites such as Threave Castle, Castle Douglas, Dumfries House, Cummnock or following the various Rabbie Burns trails. Taking time to explore the small Galloway towns like New Galloway, just 4 miles away on the other side of the valley or Kirkcudbright on the Dee Estuary is also well worth doing.
