Located within the Galloway Forest Park (Britain's first nominated Dark Sky Park) in the small, tranquil village of Glentrool, surrounded by nature, with direct access to surrounding hills, ancient woodland, forest trails and Loch Trool.
Garlies Lodge, is a detached former hunting lodge which once belonged to the Earl of Galloway is set within 5 acres of grounds and offers spacious accommodation for up to 10 guests who enjoy getting away from it all and enjoy the great outdoors.

The hidden gem is The Bothy in the garden for those days when the weather is inclement, and offers a games room with Pool Table, Dartboard and Blue Tooth speakers, along with a cosy snug with a wood burning stove and a selection of board games, there is even a fridge to keep the drinks cool. For the warmer days and evenings there is a patio area with charcoal BBQ enabling you to enjoy the Dark Skies above.

On a clear night the star-gazing, and feeling of remoteness, is truly breath-taking. The area offers excellent opportunities for walking, cycling, fishing and exploring our night skies from the doorstep along with all that this unspoilt area of Scotland has to offer.

The Galloway Forest Park forms part of the Galloway and Southern Ayrshire Biosphere, and is a firm favourite of hill walkers and mountain bikers with internationally recognised biking trails amidst some of the most dramatic scenery in the south of Scotland. There is a wealth of wildlife, such as red and roe deer in the forest and hills, while wild goats thrive on the rocky outcrops. Opportunities abound to explore the waymarked trails, cycle routes and picnic areas by bike or on foot amidst the highest hills of South Scotland. Glentrool Visitor Centre is the gateway to the Galloway hills, where you can pick up maps and information on the hill ranges. The Merrick, South Scotland's highest peak at nearly 2,800ft can be climbed from Bruce's Stone, which can be found overlooking Loch Trool. This huge granite boulder commemorates Robert the Bruce’s first victory over the English in 1307 during the Scottish Wars of Independence.

Slightly further afield your will discover Scotland’s National Book Town, Wigtown, with its numerous independent bookshops and cafes. The Ayrshire Coast including Culzean Castle and Country Park and links to Scotland’s national Bard, Robert Burns are also within easy reach. All of which make for a good day out and are worthy of a visit.

Newton Stewart is within a10 minute drive, and offers all the facilities you would expect of a small rural town including a selection of independent shops, Supermarkets, Pubs and Eateries, a Cinema, an 18 hole parkland Golf Course and The Merrick Centre which offers leisure facilities including a 25 metre swimming pool with spa & sauna, Fitness Suite and 3 court Sports Hall.
