The nearby town of Kirkcudbright with its working harbour and local fishing fleet is within walking distance being just over a mile away or 5 minutes by car. Known as ‘The Artist Town’ due to its connections to the ‘Glasgow Boys’ and Girls’, the town is a thriving centre for arts and crafts and is home to numerous private galleries and the public Kirkcudbright Galleries which hosts a wide range of exhibitions. The town has a good range of independent shops and a wide choice of places to eat out, a community run swimming pool and an 18 hole golf course with numerous others within easy reach. The town is also home to the Dark Sky Gin Distillery, the Dark Sky Planetarium which is well worth a visit and learn about our night skies, and the Station House Cookery School which offers various course throughout the year. If History is your thing the NTS property Broughton House home of the artist E.A Hornel along with its Japanese inspired garden is located on the High Street, with MacLellan’s Castle holding court over the town.

The local area is renowned for its stunning landscapes which include rugged sea shores intermixed with quiet sandy beaches and travelling inland to the Galloway Forest Park, Britain’s first Dark Sky Park is close by with extensive walking and mountain bike trails. For the young at heart a visit to the nearby Cocoa Bean Chocolate Factory is a must with its chocolate making workshops and both indoor and outdoor play areas. Cream o’ Galloway renowned for its Ice Cream offers cheese and ice cream making workshops, or you can wander around its nature trails rounded off with an ice cream! The Galloway Activity Centre on nearby Loch Ken is within easy reach offers both land and water-based activities.

Damage Deposit for care of property

All holiday-makers booking a holiday are required to pay either a Damage Deposit, £150 or as noted in the property listing details, or Damage Deposit waiver, whichever is selected is required to be paid with the balance payment of the holiday. Where selected the Damage Deposit will be held by Discover Scotland to be applied against the reasonable costs of repairs, replacement or additional cleaning of furnishings, kitchen equipment, crockery, glass, bedding and towels damaged or soiled other than by normal wear and tear during the holiday. The Damage Deposit, less any reasonable charges, will be returned within 14 days of the departure date. Where any costs exceed the Damage Deposit the holiday-maker will pay such excess as notified to them by Discover Scotland within 14 days of notification. Where the holiday-maker has agreed to pay the Damage Deposit Waiver the Damage Deposit is not payable. This amount is non-refundable. If the cost of any damage or breakages exceeds the applicable Damage Deposit value for the property, then the holiday-maker will be liable for any additional costs. Any such excess will be notified to them by Discover Scotland and due for payment within 14 days of notification.

All bookings require either a refundable Damage Deposit £150 or as per the property details or £20 non refundable Damage Deposit Waiver.
