Shinnel House

Area:
Thornhill
,
Southern Scotland

8 Guests
3 Bedrooms
2 Bathrooms

This beautifully positioned House sits within its own extensive and well-maintained garden and provides spacious accommodation for up to 8 people. The peaceful garden with riverside strolls beside Shinnel Water is shared with the owner who lives in an adjacent cottage. The ground floor features a sitting and dining room as well as conservatory, affording a larger party space to breathe before coming together as a family in the evenings. Big windows make for bright rooms and look out onto large expanses of lawn, a pond and small river (both unfenced), mature shrubs, a vegetable patch and terrace area with seating. Although you may be tempted to stay in all day and explore the garden, the surrounding area does not disappoint!
The culture and history of Scotland can be discovered and enjoyed at many local sites, one of which is Drumlanrig Castle with its beautiful gardens and famous art collection. The highest village in Scotland at Wanlockhead with its sister village of Leadhills is nearby and is the home of Scotland’s Lead mining museum. The nearby village of Moniaive, a finalist in the 2018 Scottish Culture Awards, is well worth a visit and hosts regular events including a Folk Festival (May,) a Horse Show. (July) and various music events throughout the year. Local town of Thornhill has a range of shops, pubs, and cafes.
The area gives an unrivalled cross section of life from days gone by through the industrial revolution to modern life; however, one thing that has not changed is the tranquil beauty that greets all who venture into Southern Scotland. Solway coast and Galloway Forest Park are within easy reach.
Outdoor enthusiasts will also enjoy the many activities available on the door step, including walks and cycle routes with mountain bike tracks for all abilities, being geographically central for many of the 7Stanes mountain bike trails (Ae Forest, Mabie, and others), golf, fishing, clay pigeon shooting, and horse riding.
