The spacious detached, traditional farmhouse, situated within the tranquil surroundings of Lerags Glen, just outside Oban has recently undergone a full refurbishment to offer modern, stylish accommodation for 10 and yet still retains many of its original features. Numerous dining options both inside and out, a games room, wood fired Hot Tub and two outdoor baths along with 5 bedrooms (one of which is on the ground floor), Achalic Farmhouse provides the ideal setting for family gatherings or groups of friends to get together.

The stunning panoramic views of the surrounding countryside are best enjoyed from the large living room windows where you can take in the expansive vistas across the surrounding fields, hillsides dotted with sheep and the beautiful woodlands beyond. In the evenings you can sit and enjoy a quiet drink beside the woodburning stove and watch the shadows lengthen across the glen. The area has an abundance of wildlife including red and roe deer, red squirrel, pine martin, occasional sea eagles overhead and otters. The local area was used for filming Ring of Brightwater and also scenes from Enigma (based on the book by Robert Harris).

As you wind your way through the glen on the quiet single-track road the surrounding landscape gives you a sense of the peace and tranquillity you are about to enjoy. You will pass the renowned Barn Bar and Restaurant, where you can enjoy hearty local fare and a range of cask ales, along with a warm welcome from the locals. (Open all year but restricted hours in winter).

Oban, known as the Seafood Capital of Scotland, has a wide range of seafood & fish restaurants and an excellent fish shop if you wish to cook your own. A visit to the Green Seafood Shack on the quayside is a must for those who love their shellfish. The town is otherwise known as the Gateway to the Isles with the Calmac ferry terminal giving access to trips to Mull, Colonsay, Tiree, Lismore and Barra.

The town has an array of independent shops, including the must visit Oban Chocolate Shop, Oban Distillery, a selection of supermarkets, a cinema, golf course, swimming pool and a selection of other land and water-based sports facilities. With its own sandy beach for those looking for a traditional ‘seaside holiday’, numerous historical sites within easy reach including Dunstaffnage Castle, Inveraray Jail and for the horticulturist’s visits to Inveraray Castle & Gardens and Arduaine Gardens are a must. Cruachan, The Hollow Mountain is well worth a visit where you can take a tour inside the mountain and hear how on demand electricity is generated for Scotland. There really is plenty for all ages to explore.

Further afield, Fort William is approximately an hour to the north, lying in the shadow of Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in Scotland, and where you can see The Jacobite train of Harry Potter fame which runs along the West Highland line to Mallaig over the infamous Glenfinnan viaduct. The world reknown area of Glencoe is within a 50-minute drive for the more adventurous wishing to explore its valleys and peaks.
