It is ideally situated for a peaceful and relaxing break, with the patio and Hot Tub allowing you to take full advantage of the panoramic vistas and stunning sunsets, or to enjoy some amazing star gazing due to the dark skies above. Rurally located, yet still within easy reach of all the facilities you would expect within the regional hub of Dumfries, a 10-minute drive away, along with easy access to major road networks for travelling around the region and further afield.

There is much to do and explore throughout the area with its strong connections to Robert Bruce, King of Scots with numerous trails and sites throughout the region. Scotland’s famous Baird, Rabbie Burns, with his home, Mausoleum, The Globe Inn, Burns Centre and Ellisland Farm located in and around Dumfries, as is Moat Brae the birthplace of Peter Pan and former home of author J.M. Barrie which has been recently renovated to become the home of the National Centre for Children’s Literature. More Scottish cultural history can be found at the birthplace of Thomas Carlyle, Scottish essayist, philosopher and historian in nearby Ecclefechan which is run by the National Trust for Scotland.

The great outdoors can be enjoyed on the unspoilt sandy beaches of the Solway Firth, the nearest of which is at Powfoot, with numerous others to be found along the Solway Coast. For the adventurous cyclist sections of the 7 Stanes Mountain Bike Trails can be found at both Ae and Mabie Forests both within a 20-minute drive, for those looking for a gentle ride there are plenty of quiet country roads around about. There are superb opportunities for outdoor activities both along the coast and inland where there is a great variety of river walks through to the hilltops giving magnificent panoramas to enjoy. Golf courses with great variety ranging from links courses at both Powfoot and Southerness to the parkland contrast of the two 18 holes course within Dumfries. The choice of other outdoor activities is almost endless and includes fishing, horse riding, water sports and clay pigeon shooting all of which are within easy reach.

For younger family members the nearby Dino Park offers prehistoric experiences, Mabie Farm Park and Dalscone in Dumfries offer the opportunity to get up close with animals and have extensive play areas. The Devils Porridge Museum tells the story of the greatest WW1 munitions factory on earth at Eastriggs and Caerlaverock Nature Reserve, WWT centre and unique triangular castle a short drive away

The cottage has been fully renovated and provides a luxurious holiday base. The south facing patio complete with Hot Tub is the ideal spot for a relaxing evening with family & friends after a day of exploring.
