On the edge of Galloway Forest Dark Sky Park, Grobdale Byre is a detached former steading conversion, within a U shaped courtyard, situated on an upland farm.

It is a simply wonderful location for a peaceful family holiday, offering seclusion, but not total isolation, with the picturesque town of Gatehouse of Fleet to the west, just 20 minutes away by car and providing hotels, restaurants, shops, a delightful and testing nine hole golf course, tennis courts, river and loch fishing. There are numerous other nearby attractions and activities for both adults and children, including Cream o' Galloway, Cocoa Bean Chocolate Factory and Galloway Activity Centre. To the east is the popular market town of Castle Douglas, with its vibrant high street of unique independent shops, cafes and restaurants, theatre and cinema, swimming pool and golf course. NTS Threave Estate is located on the edge of the town with Threave House & Gardens and Threave Castle all worth a visit.

Sandy beaches and rocky coves for bathing, windsurfing and sailing are within easy driving distance; sea fishing and horse riding are also available; the Forestry Commission 7Stanes mountain biking trail at Kirroughtree is around 40 minutes' drive away; and the area is a haven for wildlife, with regular sightings of deer, red squirrels, red kites, grouse, barn owls and curlews. From the cottage door there are extensive walks and mountain bike rides over hill, past lochs, through forestry and down the valley. Slightly further afield but well worth a visit are Kirkcudbright know as the Artist's Town due to its links with the Glasgow Boys and the small town of Wigtown, Scotland's National Book Town.

The Cottage is also perfect for bracing winter holidays where its warmth and comfort provide a cosy retreat.
